THE RESULTS ARE IN!

More than 120 boats competed in this year's 10th Annual BVI Poker Run held on Sunday May 29th, 2011. The majority of the competitors were from the Virgin Islands, which fielded 90 boats, while 35 came from Puerto Rico, two from Miami, and four from the island of St. Maarten. Registration started at 8:30am and boats headed out from Leverick Bay Marina to the first stop at Scrub Island Resort shortly after 11:00am. At each stop they picked up a playing card, with each boat trying for the best poker hand.

By 5:00pm, all boats were back at Leverick Bay for the awards ceremony and closing party. Jose Dueño, from Puerto Rico, took 3rd place while James Jones of the Distraction Team won 2nd place with a Full House. Local Dion Crabbe took the top prize of $8,000 with four fives. As usual, the event donated its proceeds to local BVI charities. This year, $8,000 was given to the Virgin Gorda Charitable Trust to help fund an Olympic-sized swimming pool for the community. The Poker Run Committee would like to thank all the participants for their involvement in the event and recognize the unwavering commitment of Poker Run founders Nick and Monica Willis.

Five years later, in 2007, the event had grown to 80 boats. In 2009, thanks to the involvement of the, JL Marketing Firm, the event doubled it's size to 121 boats.
