Preparations for the BVI Poker Run 2014 are underway and expectations on this, its 13th anniversary, are high. More than 300 boats from Puerto Rico, Miami, and the USVI's will head out to the BVI's to participate in the event on Memorial Day weekend. "It is the biggest Poker Run up to date," expressed Nick Willis, manager of Leverick Bay Resort.


More than 300 boats competed in last year's 12th Annual BVI Poker Run held on Sunday May 26th, 2013. The majority of the competitors were from the Virgin Islands, which fielded 90 boats, while more than 35 came from Puerto Rico, Miami, and from the island of St. Maarten. The team on board the boat Tempo Racing of St. Croix/Tortola combined walked away with a cash prize of $8,000 for being the winners of the largest ever Poker Run in the history of the sport in the Virgin Islands. Pamper Pirate, led by Mr Elton George got the 2nd place prize of $5,000, 3rd prize was won by Renegade, which was captained by Kalid Douglas and the 4th place prize of $1,000 was pocketed by Festus Pemberton with the boat Red Hot. Simply the Best copped the prize for the best dressed team.

Welcome to the 13th Anniversary of the Most thrilling nautical event of the year

This year's Leverick Bay Poker Run marks the 13th anniversary of the legendary event, which has drawn the attention of hundreds of nautical enthusiasts to the clear BVI waters. During the Leverick Bay Poker Run, participants travel a pre-designated route, drawing a card at each stop until they complete the route at Leverick Bay Resort & Marina. At the end of the journey, participants holding the best poker hand are crowned Poker Run champion. Large portions of the participants’ entry costs are donated to local charity Virgin Gorda Diabetes Association.

The Poker Run has become a national holiday in the BVI's, attracting a large amount of visitors from the USVI's and Puerto Rico. This year's 13th anniversary celebrations will certainly attract the biggest crowd in the history of this renowned event. This year's event will undoubtedly change this event for years to come, with new surprises at every stop, tons of prizes, a sophisticated fashion show and a stunning display of fireworks at the end of The Poker Run.

Event History


2002- First Poker Run, 15 boats said they would attend ; only 12 showed up, 3 of them from Puerto Rico. From there on, the event grew in popularity.

Five years later, in 2007, the event had grown to 80 boats. In 2009, thanks to the involvement of JL Marketing Firm, the event doubled its size to 121 boats.

The estimate for this year's 12th Anniversary is around 180 boats and 2,000 participants.
